Shane Woolman is a resident DJ and contributor for The Wire magazine and hosts regular radio shows on Resonance FM, NTS Radio and New New World Radio. Shane moved from New Zealand to London as a teenager, carving out a solid interest in experimental music from a young age and later going on to work for Some Bizarre, Matador Records and The Wire.
Always having an ear to the ground for new and unusual tracks, his sets are an eclectic mix of dub, electronic, psych, bass, hip-hop, techno, rock and funk, unearthing leftfield party bangers, unknown dub edits, Turkish psych and forgotten classics. He has provided DJ support for Andy Stott, Hieroglyphic Being, Nkisi, Sun Araw, Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids, The Necks and Matana Roberts at venues like The Jazz Cafe, Cafe Oto, Royal Albert Hall, Moscow’s Mutabor club, The Cube in Bristol and the Supernormal Festival.
Shane is a regular Wire contributor in print, online and on air, having interviewed or featured artists such as Selda Bağcan, Gaye Su Akyol, Nkisi, Shiva Feshareki, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Ela Orleans, Mumdance, RKSS, Peverelist, Kate Carr and Little Annie Bandez, most recently hosting a live Q&A with Kate NV at Fields Festival in Moscow. He also curates and compiles the Wire Tapper, The Wire‘s longstanding CD compilation series.
